Title: ‘Similar Yet Different'

Medium: 10 inch/26 CM Squares Preferably on Watercolor Paper

Subject: Aspects of life in Pinar del Rio, Cuba and Nova Scotia, Canada. (Work, People, Landscape, Culture)

Design: Each square will be mounted on foam core with one side representing Cuba and the other, Nova Scotia. Three double sided squares will than be hung with barrel swivel and line to form columns. These columns will then be suspended from the ceiling in three or four rows far enough apart to allow the viewer to walk amongst them. The air current and swivels will cause the pieces to turn individually.

Each artist will make a comment about their piece.

Why: To bring awareness of the similarities and differences between the two Provinces. To help promote the Cuban - Nova Scotia Art Exchange.

Who: Various Cuban and Nova Scotian Artists under the direction of Jude Caborn.

History/ Origin: This piece is a result of working with Ruth Wilton on her Cuban. Nova Scotia Cultural Exchange Project.

2005- A group of Nova Scotian Artists exhibited in Pinar del Rio, Cuba

2006- Watercolor Workshop in Pinar del Rio

2008- Trips to Pinar del Rio to work with artists and the Casa de Cultura Pedro Junco

2009- Exhibit this project in various venues to promote awareness and the Cuban Exchange Project

2010- Cuban Artist Exchange Exhibit, Pier 21 Gallery and Lunenburg Art Gallery

2011- ‘Similar Yet Different’ is exhibited in Cuba. Jude will do community based art programs in each community.

 
 

This piece will be accompanied by a collection of children’s drawings from both provinces. These drawings will consist of 5x7 pieces of paper to be displayed in a mosaic fashion along the walls. The children will be between the ages of 6 and 14 and told only to draw a picture about their province.

     
 
Farms: One in Vinales, Pinar del Rio and the other in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.
 
Fishing: These boats are used for fishing along the shore. One on the left was taken at a reservoir in Pinar del Rio. The one on the right is at Northwest Cove, Nova Scotia
 
Tourism: If you plan on visiting Pinar del Rio, you would be as encouraged to take in Vinales as Nova Scotia Tourism encourages one to see Peggy’s Cove.
